Andrew Featured in National Publication

In the "Speedway Saturday Night" section of the July 2008 edition of Dick Berggren's Speedway Illustrated, Andrew is featured in an article entitled "Watermelon-My Favorite" Here is an excerpt from the article:

"Twenty-year-old Andrew Smith of Pooler, Georgia has a knack for Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia. He has won every Legends Car feature in his past 12 visits to the 3/8-mile asphalt oval."

Andrew has every intention of raising that number to 13 as he returns to the Watermelon Capital Speedway on August 23 for the Frank McKinney Memorial Scholarship 50. This race pays $3000 to win and is sure to attract the top Legends drivers in the nation. Make your plans now to attend this special event and help support Andrew and the Frank McKinney Scholarship.

Summer Shootout Week 8 Provides Better Results

What a difference a week (and a new front clip) makes! After destroying the #62 in week 7 action, Andrew returned with a vengeance in week 8 and drove to an impressive second place finish.

Been That Kind of Summer

To put it mildly, the 2008 Summer Shootout at Lowe's Motor Speedway has been unkind to Andrew. On July 22, Andrew had finally found the handle and was among the leaders when trouble struck. While running in fourth place, Andrew was caught up in a wreck between the top 3 and destroyed the white #62. While unhurt and disappointed, Andrew was optimistic about the way the car was running. Andrew and the Clay Hair Motorsports team will have the car ready for action in Round 8 of the Summer Shootout on July 29.

Something Totally Different

After a posting a great start to his 2008 INEX RaceCeiver Legends Series season, Andrew Smith took a weekend off to go SCCA road racing at the Roebling Road Raceway in the ASR Monte Carlo Late Model.

  • From the V8StockCar.com website: "Local oval track racer, Andrew Smith, who only recently started road racing, startled everyone with his quick lap times and hard charging style. Smith, just twenty years old, from nearby Pooler, battled hard on Sunday with V8 SPO winner Bill Smith and last years class champion, Lee Arnold. Andrew earned a spot on the podium, finishing just behind the two talented veterans."
