NINE IN A ROW AT WATERMELON!

There are some tracks that a driver develops a certain feel for. Earnhardt had it at Daytona, Waltrip at Bristol, and Elliott at Michigan.

Andrew Smith knows that feeling.

Going into Saturday's Spring Speed Spectacular, Andrew had won the last eight races he had completed at the Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia. When the checkered flag fell on the 20-lap INEX RaceCeiver Legends feature, that number had increased to nine.

Starting heat race number one in the fifth position, Andrew quickly worked his way into the second spot and then to the lead. The second place car of Austin Hill battled to the inside of Andrew coming out of Turn 4 to set up a dogfight for the lead. Andrew held his position on the outside as the two raced side by side for several laps until Andrew backed off going into the third turn and dove under Hill to wrestle away the victory.

"That must have looked pretty exciting to the fans," said Andrew after the heat race.

By winning the the first heat race, Andrew had the "honor" of rolling the dice to determine the number of cars to be inverted in the feature. Andrew rolled a 5 which would put him starting in the fifth spot for the feature event. Andrew showed patience as he worked his way through traffic to finally take the lead by lap five. While others had heated battles and mechanical issues behind him, Andrew was able to maintain his position and drove the #62 to victory.

"It seemed like a lot of people were tearing things up tonight," Andrew commented. "We've had pretty good luck with that, lately." Andrew continued by saying, "I really want to thank Clay and guys at Clay Hair Motorsports as for all of their help and support. And this G.E. Chapman motor is strong, too."

When asked about his thoughts on winning his last nine races at Watermelon Captial, Andrew said, "It feels awesome. I wish we would win nine more!"

The attention now turns to the Battle of Bristol on March 29 - 30.

"We don't really know what to expect since we've never been to the track before," said Andrew. He then added, "We are confident, though."
